This is slightly different from the normal uploads on this channel, but I thought that the ways in which the incident was handled were very interesting, and I hope it interests you too. Update: It has been publicised that this was a 15 year old boy travelling to Redhill who fell from the platform at Horley and was electrocuted by the 750 V third rail. The Train Channel

The guard being a former signaller would have known the rulebook from both sides, traction and signalling and that there was no get around a red is a red and you ask the signalbox for permission and take note in book of instruction by signalbox who would also put it into their book permission to pass signal at danger. Any local signal flagger would have given a slip which would have acted as a paper token to proceed as instructed, the fact there was no slip, no flags should have raised a lot more than eyebrows with traincrew...

Amazing....❤
AND 2S15 SPADS THROUGH THE LEVEL CROSSING!!1!1!1!!!!11!
I love old videos from the BR days/early privatisation days. Thank you for uploading this.
‘Ahead of schedule’ is something I’ve not heard for many years
One of these turned up one Saturday night at M/cr Picc and I was given it for the New Mills service.....we were turned back at Bredbury because of a problem further up the line. Then an engine stopped on the way back.....When I got back I had it taken to Longsight DED. After this I drove quite a few 153s but never another 155.
Awsome😊
Today's safety regulations would prohibit many of these procedures.

Whatever happened to Gemma Valentine? Life goes by so quickly
They would just piss themselves laughing at this in India!
Brilliant 👍
Very informative- excellent production.
The driver doesn't take power. The driver applies power, the train takes power.
I watched a YTP of this
Trevor Edmead was a driver, nice to see him advance to mgmt.
My right ear felt that
And when dave talks its my left ear
Guard's fault.
Why the piss taking? I was in a busy signalling centre for 20 odd years-and regardless of useless management - mind numbing, badly worded assessments, hopelessly compiled rule books etc, one of the most effective expressions was re coms - 'Clear understanding'. That was missing here. Why didn't the signalman contact the driver when he saw the train had passed a signal at danger?
Most of the history of the overground has happened after this video was released

Oh look someone working trackside without safety boots, cat 3 hi vis or a helmet. Amazing he survived 😂
One of the films I helped make back in the day.
Any idea on how I can find the source of the full music track from the beginning of this video, and perhaps other BR videos?
what am i watching.
'yellow vest' ??? Oh boy .....
Man that livery was ahead of it's time and still looks very good today
I think I remember watching this actual film during a mutual improvement class when I was 18.
Man, how good would it be to have Holly as your train driver. Smegging brilliant...
Clearly the Network Rail man was there to control the road crossing, he said as much, but the flags conversation appeared to distract the driver from the entirely separate matter of a signal at red which may or may not have been caused by faulty gates. When the crossing controller said the road crossing was clear for the train to go, how could he have known about the signal situation and the line ahead? He obviously had no communication with the signal office, and that contact with the signal controller was still for the driver to do!
A few years ago (~2019) I heard someone at Leeds station ask the Northern staff if the 155 I was sat on was the London train. 😂 "No love, big red train, platform 6, over the bridge, you've got about 10 minutes" 👍
I thought the London overground came out in the 1990s
The driver in this vid is Dave Newall who was a Stratford driver at the time. He used to get an extra lieu day's Leave for making these vids. The passengers were all his family and friends as well!...... I first saw this while at Ilford Training School.....
Bright clean passenger transport- proceeds to pan out to zero pantographs, third rail or Canaries. ... I wasn't looking at the world's worst attempt at hiding a death sentence conductor rail.
I believe the tightlock coupling was used because it could couple to a buckeye in an emergency. Unfortunately it was apparently sometimes difficult to get them apart again!!!

Just curious how many Signal Boxes are still in use. Here in the US they are nearly extinct.
"In 1948 there were approximately 10,000 signal boxes; by 2012 this had reduced to about 500. National Rail has plans to concentrate control at twelve centres by 2040, decommissioning most of the remaining mechanical signal boxes by 2025." -Wikipedia on signal boxes that are still listed as buildings in England
As someone who spent a great deal of time on a fully signaled private railway, I can empathise, but rules is rules and I'm sure the DOO would have my nuts in a sling if this happened.
It’s alright to go….for the 5th time🚈
Was he in brookside?
Pretty decent acting.
Bad acting
Train driver from Belgium here, on my way to work. Thanks for sharing this! While the danger of the famous vague "it's ok to go!" is well known by us train drivers, it is still being used by others around us who don't apply the communications procedures. I'm currently raising awareness around me about this issue and so is the railway. This video couldn't have been suggested to me at a better time!
It was the lads fault for not asking if he needed red and green flags at the xing and he should have paid more attention to the signals Red Means Stop
they got off the train before it even stopped hahahahaah. damn the old days were so cool
What's the song on the first minutes?
Can someone tell me what the synth music at the start is
